Fingers crossed

July 28, 2005

I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I went to a job interview yesterday for a helpdesk position with the district. It’s a way to get out of the politics of this place. It feels like I’m sinking everyday. I know that I’m not appreciated by two of the staff members who I am supposed to be working with. They haven’t included me in any of their plans. Pretty crappy if you ask me. I have to sound that way, but it is. I have gone above and beyond the call of duty for the both of them, and they shun me. Sure, I’ll miss working with the kids, but I’ve got to think of myself. I’ve told all the supervisors that if I do get the job, I’m just a phone call away.

Haven’t started on any new knitting, yet. I’m waiting to go down to the house and look through DH’s great aunt’s yarn. I get whatever I want. Probably all acrylic, but it’s free. If I’ve got time today, I’ll look through some free patterns to see if I can find some ideas on what to make.

We finished our room. It looks pretty cool with the plaster on the walls.

Manic Monday

July 18, 2005

This weekend was nerve wracking. We had the funeral for DH’s great aunt. Not great-great (my bad). Then we found out about inheritance tax. Gotta love that. I won’t go into detail until we figure everything out.

Finished one sock this weekend and started on the second one. I changed the pattern up a bit (well can you call stopping early changing it up). The original pattern calls for 8 stitches total to be grafted together for the toe. I decided that looked too pointy, so I changed it to 16 stitches to make the toe look a little more natural. With it being only 8 it looked like an elf sock. I do like the way the colors came out, though. Purple, pink, blue and green stripes.

We tried having the kids write a stream of consciousness today. That didn’t work too well. They didn’t quite understand that they just needed to type what they were thinking. It’s hard to get First thru fifth graders to understand that.

We are still working on finishing our living room wall. We sanded down the plaster this weekend. Next weekend we are going to put a protective topcoat on the whole wall. That should be really fun. Troweling on topcoat.

I haven’t had a chance to even crack open Harry Potter this weekend. I bought it on Saturday, but there was just no time. I’m saddened. I am trying not to read certain places on the web because the plot would be ruined for me. I heard that it is sad, though. Does anybody else think that Rowling will stop with the next book?

Somber Day

July 14, 2005

Last night DH’s great-great aunt passed away. She suffered from a stroke and a fall. They moved her to a hospice yesterday morning where she passed away yesterday evening. She was 86 and was basically prepared for it. She has already paid for her funeral. We were as prepared for it as we could have been.

This has been a tiring week, so not much knitting was done. Within the last two weeks I have completed 2 pairs of socks and prior to that I made a lace hat for a girl who is undergoing cancer treatments. She has been wearing a felt or fleece turban type hat. Her mother was hoping that she would wear something else. She wears the one I made almost all the time now. The first pair of socks that I made were toe socks. The second pair were Geisha socks from Spun Mag’s Summer Sock Collection. I am making a third pair that are a regular toe, but the anklet type from Spun Mag. The anklets seem to knit up faster. I did have a problem with the toes on some of them (you have to add stitches and then pick them up later. I always seem to have gaps where I pick up. Luckily, I visited knittinghelp.com and watched the sock video. It really helped.) Sometimes following patterns are difficult because the writers just assume that you know how to do a particular stitch.
