Today I received a print order. After reviewing it, I decided to go deliver it without telling the client. When she ordered I told her that I could not guarantee that it would be in my Christmas. I picked up her order form on Tuesday. Even though I had a pretty good idea that the order would be here in plenty of time for the holidays, you can never be 100% sure with delivery times during this busy season. I uploaded the order and sprung for the 2 day shipping just to be sure.
I was working on some editing of a recent awesome senior session (sneak peek to come soon), and the doorbell rang. Of course my security crew leapt off the couch from their slumbers and trotted to the door with their sirens blaring. Woof woof woof. I cracked the door to find no one there. (I swear those guys sprint back to their trucks. I think they want to be like elves, ducking in and out, stealthly leaving the packages we so eagerly await for them to deliver.) There was the package just outside the doorframe.
I brought it inside and held my breath as I opened it. One other occassion I had found printing issues and I definitely did not want to have to deal with those again (even though my print vendor was absolutely wonderful and accommodating when it happened). I slid each picture carefully out of the protective envelopes. My eyes scanned each page. They were beautiful. I placed them back in the packaging and headed out to lunch with my Mom. Pictures in tow.
We stopped by my client’s workplace. She was out to lunch, but we waited. She came through the door and was excited. She eagerly asked if I had shown her co-workers. Of course I hadn’t. I do like for the client to view the final product first. She opened the package. She was thrilled. The moment she looked at them her eyes lit up. I then realized the importance of what I do. Those pictures brought her joy. They captured special moments for her and gave her the opportunity to share those moments with her family.
For that one moment - All was happy.
‘Tis the season. Share the happiness.
